Judge Stan Bastian serves as a United States District Judge in the Eastern District of Washington. He was nominated by President Barak Obama on September 19, 2013, and January 6, 2014. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on April 30, 2014, and appointed by the President on May 1, 2014.
He started his legal career in Seattle where he worked as both a public defender and prosecutor. He also served as a law clerk for Judge Ward Williams at the Washington State Court of Appeals. He was then in private practice for 25 years with a law firm in Wenatchee. Judge Bastian served as the President of the Washington State Bar Association in 2007-2008.
Judge Bastian attended college at the University of Oregon (B.S. History 1980) and law school at the University of Washington (J.D. 1983). He is married to Judge Alicia Nakata who has served as a judge in Chelan County since 1994.
