Elevation to Article III Judge

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington announces the appointment of Mary K. (Kit) Dimke as Article III Judge for the District.  Her nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on December 18, 2021, and her commission was signed by President Joseph Biden on December 21, 2021. Chief Judge Stanley A. Bastian administered the Oath of Office to Judge Dimke that same afternoon.  
 
Judge Dimke grew up in Asotin County, Washington as the daughter of a rancher. Her education consists of an undergraduate degree in Political Science awarded by Pepperdine University in 1999, and a Juris Doctorate awarded by the Vanderbilt University School of Law in 2002.
Early in her legal career, Judge Dimke served as a law clerk for both the Honorable Alan B. Johnson, United States District Court, District of Wyoming, and for the Honorable Richard C. Tallman, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Seattle, Washington. She went on to serve as a federal prosecutor for over 11 years, first as a Trial Attorney at the Department of Justice, Criminal Fraud Section, then as an Assistant United States Attorney, in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington.  Most recently, she has served the past six years as a Magistrate Judge for this Court.  

Judge Dimke’s official duty station will be in Spokane, Washington, and she will hear cases in each of the Court’s three divisions.
