No. The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington only holds jury trials in Spokane, Yakima, and Richland.
Federal law requires the Court to summon jurors from all 20 counties within the Eastern District of Washington. Because of this, we cannot transfer your jury service to another court.
Report to Spokane if you live in: Adams, Asotin, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Garfield, Grant, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, and Whitman
Report to Yakima or Richland if you live in: Benton, Franklin, Kittitas, Klickitat, Walla Walla, and Yakima
Residents in the Yakima/Richland jury division may be required to report to either Yakima or Richland based on the Court's trial needs. Reporting locations are not assigned based on the distance from your home.
Jury records are created using information provided by the Washington State Department of Licensing and Washington voter registration records.
If you have moved out of Washington, please make sure your information has been updated with both of the following:
- The Washington State Department of Licensing (for your driver’s license or identification card).
- Washington voter registration, including your previous county’s elections office if needed.
Updating one agency does not automatically update the other. It may also take several months for updated information to appear in the jury records provided to the Court.
If you have already updated both agencies, no further action is needed. Please indicate on your questionnaire that you no longer live within the Eastern District of Washington. Jury staff will verify the information and update your record as appropriate.
Serving on a state, county, or municipal jury does not excuse you from federal jury service.
If you served on a federal jury within the past two years, you may request to be excused. Please provide proof of your previous federal jury service or contact our office so we can verify your service to include with your juror qualification questionnaire.
Meals are generally provided only for jurors who are deliberating.
You are welcome to bring a snack or lunch. Restaurants are located near the courthouses, and refrigerators and microwaves are available for juror use.
If severe weather, traffic, or another unexpected circumstance prevents you from arriving on time, please contact the Jury Office immediately by email or phone.
Court proceedings may be delayed if even one juror is late. Please allow extra time for traffic and travel delays.
If a family or medical emergency prevents you from reporting, please contact the Jury Office as soon as possible by email or phone.

If you need proof of attendance, the Jury Office will provide you with a Certificate of Attendance on the day of jury selection and the conclusion of the trial.
If you fail to report as directed, the Court may issue an Order to Show Cause requiring you to explain why you did not comply with your jury summons.
Failure to report may result in penalties under 28 U.S.C. § 1866(g), including a fine of up to $1,000, up to three days in jail, community service, or a combination of these penalties.
If the person who received the summons has passed away, you may respond on their behalf.

Or you may provide a death certificate or documentation to the Jury Office via mail, email or fax.
If your name or address is incorrect, log in to your questionnaire, update your contact information, and complete the questionnaire.
You must complete the questionnaire even if your information is incorrect.
If you have moved outside the Eastern District of Washington, indicate this when completing the questionnaire. Jury staff will verify the information and update your record if appropriate.
Another person may complete the questionnaire on the juror’s behalf.

No. The Court considers excuse requests only from the prospective juror.
Federal law protects employees from adverse employment action because of federal jury service. If you are requesting to be excused because of work-related hardship, you must submit the request yourself as part of your questionnaire or by contacting the Jury Office if your circumstances change after submission.
It is your responsibility to check your reporting instructions as directed throughout your two-week on-call term. If you realize your missed checking your reporting instructions, contact the Jury Office as soon as possible for further instructions.
